This is why nobody reads your blog
- themodelplumber 5y agoThanks for posting. I'll be straight up, I get emails from blog readers linking me to posts like this. I have sinned. Many, many times. But here are five reasons why I don't feel like I can ever apply the advice: 1. In my measured testing, I discovered that if I blog for myself I enjoy the process & outcomes more. I also write more, the less I think about my audience. And when I blog for myself, I don't feel like a headline is relevant unless it helps me remember what's in the post. 1. I already made money with a blog in the past, and personally I think there are easier ways to make money. Personally I think I could do better over the next year by buying $DOGE today with a month's paycheck than by hitting publish on 100 good headlines with a month's effort. But maybe that's just me. 1. When people read my blog I don't really feel like I get anything authentically energizing out of it, unless I feel that they are reading thoughts from my authentic self. And my authentic self is a bit tired of marketing optimization, unfortunately. 1. Every time I try to write to my audience, I make a friend who's in a different audience, and I think, "maybe I like that audience also" and it just turns into a big mess. Maybe the audience model is not the right writing model for me at all. 1. A good way to be provocative is to piss off your readers, and giving them rambling, vague, highly subjective headlines is a great way to do that. (OK this one is a reach, I admit) (Sorry for those concerned, I couldn't resist a little markdown humor) Still, I thank you for the article as the points will eventually make it through.
