Tesla asks owners to share fewer clips of FSD beta mistakes
- rvz 5y ago> “there are a lot of people that want Tesla to fail; Don’t let them mischaracterise your feedback and media posts." Maybe people want Tesla to succeed but the autopilot / FSD software that runs on the vehicle needs to be thoroughly investigated by independent regulators to make sure that it is safe for all drivers on the road. Someone else will just record it instead. What is wrong with being transparent?
- smt88 5y ago> Someone else will just record it instead. What is wrong with being transparent? People will find out that Musk has been lying for years and Tesla is far behind Waymo.
- angrysword 5y agoWaymo is way better than Tesla FSD in theory, in lab and also in some imagery situations. In practice, there is 600 waymo compare millions tesla in the road.
- ra7 5y agoExcept each of the 600 Waymo vehicles is fully self driving with more being added. The number of Teslas that are fully self driving out of millions on road is zero.
- smt88 5y agoThose metrics mean nothing about how good each company is at FSD. By your logic, Toyota beats them both because it has more vehicles on the road with automatic lane assist. In reality, there are fewer Waymos because they are only an FSD company and because they seem to care about not killing people.
- EastOfTruth 5y agoSo I get it, it is full-self-driving and it doesn't make mistakes.
- reginold 5y agoBetter: "Be a role model on the roads, treat this car as a beta and piece of the future it is. We know this is exciting, we're excited too." Instead of "don't get caught"
- gadnuk 5y agoI wish that companies who do such kind of "beta testing" on public roads would put indicators on cars that the car is running FSD Beta. That way, I know that I should also be extra cautious as the Tesla car is capable of doing some weird moves If you want to train your ‘beta’ neural network because it isn’t ready yet, use a fucking lab. I, as a non-Tesla car driver, did not sign up to be around cars that are using buggy and potentially dangerous technology. I have no idea why the NHSTA isn't clamping down hard on this. Yes, I know I will get downvoted by Tesla apologists. I have nothing against making strides in technology, but a technology like this which is nowhere near Level 4 FSD, let alone Level 5, should not be distributed so widely without it being regulated and deemed safe for ALL drivers on the road (and pedestrians, animals, properties, etc).

That way, I know that I should also be extra cautious as the Tesla car is capable of doing some weird moves I agree, this is the very least they should be doing if they're determined to unleash a beta product that can kill people onto the non-consenting public. My solution in the meantime is to treat every Tesla driver I encounter on the road as if they're drunk. Whenever there's a problem with FSD, Tesla is quick to point out that "it's only a beta" as if it's only the car owner's concern and responsibility for choosing to opt-in to a beta test. As someone who has to share the road with beta testers and beta products, I never got to opt in or out to being tested on like a guinea pig. Truthfully, it should be illegal for companies to externalize their own beta testing on to the public when it comes to products that can kill and maim. It blows my mind because driving itself is highly regulated as it is, yet this is given a pass by regulators.
- aeternum 5y agoDo you also put a bumper-sticker on your car to warn other drivers when you didn't get a good night's sleep, when you're on the phone, when you've had a stressful day?

- angrysword 5y agoThe title is misleading. TESLA ask share fewer clips. not necessary good or bad. According to a copy of the NDA obtained by Vice, Tesla tells those who sign the document that “there are a lot of people that want Tesla to fail; Don’t let them mischaracterize your feedback and media posts.” The company also says owners in the beta should “share on social media responsibly and selectively” and “consider sharing fewer videos, and only the ones that you think are interesting or worthy of being shared.”
