"They found 37% of patients had at least one long Covid symptom diagnosed three to six months after infection. The most common symptoms were breathing problems, abdominal symptoms, fatigue, pain and anxiety or depression."
What is the proportion of those in the general population? Anxiety & Depression is the highest accounting for 15%, but the baseline number is pretty high as well... This seems to assume the pre-covid population had 0 symptoms and was 100% healthy.
tldr: Seems like fear clickbait.
- Tarsul 5y agowait a minute. Even if the baseline in the population for anxiety would be high or similar to those 15%, this would mean that Americans are even more miserable than the article suggests! Anyway, long covid is here to stay. In the US they could probably do whole departments in hospitals for long covid patients.
- jinpa_zangpo 5y agoThe symptoms reported in the article do not require hospitalization.
- tinus_hn 5y agoNot to mention of course that it wouldn’t be too surprising if the lockdowns and the vaccination fights caused at least some anxiety and depression.
