Ask HN: HN set my submission url to a wrong one. Why can't I change it back?
Hi all,
When I posted a submission this morning, HN changed the url to an unknown one. Now I can't update it, it's disabled.
Any ideas ? Help greatly appreciated.
- mindcrime 5y agoI'd suggest emailing hn@ycombinator.com. The guidelines say to prefer sending email for "meta" stuff like this, as opposed to making it a HN post. > Please don't post on HN to ask or tell us something. Send it to hn@ycombinator.com
- da_vinci 5y agoThanks for your feedback, we already send it, no reply.
- mindcrime 5y agoBummer. :-( I saw the post in question. That is really weird that the URL just got randomly changed like that. Maybe a bug in the platform? Anyway, hope they get it resolved for you soon.
- da_vinci 5y agoThanks, we were very surprised. We wanted to help others with this issue just in case it already happened to someone else with moderators ;).
- geoah 5y agoYour HTML includes a canonical link to a different site, which is most likely why HN updated the link. Canonical links are used to allow search engines and other services to figure out that two different URLs are actually the same page, so I think HN did the right thing. Other services will do the same thing either via canonical links, or open graph tags. You probably want to remove/update your page to point to the right site. As to why this is even there, probably bad copy/paste, or you might wanna check your hosting provider/software for issues. `<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.briiant.com/ http://www.briiant.com/">` https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canonical_link_element https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canonical_link_element
- da_vinci 5y agoThanks for your help. It has been fixed. Indeed, wrong copy and paste when building site ;).
