As a 13yo visiting Paris in the early 80's, the lineup of TGVs at the Gare de Lyon was on my bucket list. We were passed by one after leaving Paris for Geneva, puttering along in our combi van; blink and you would have missed it. Only thing maybe cooler was standing on an original GWR platform when a diesel InterCity 125 HST went through at speed. More recently took the Hikari from Tokyo to Kyoto and back on my JR Pass which was a blast.
