Ferrari Hires Jony Ive
- twobitshifter 5y agoIve doesn’t make me think of Ferrari. Ferrari is about emotional design which I haven’t seen in Apple products.
- cmelbye 5y agoMaybe that's why he left Apple. I would find it hard to look at an earlier product like the iMac G3 and call it devoid of emotion. But there are likely fewer opportunities to put a new spin on "rectangular sheet of glass", which is what iMac, iPhone, and iPad are now.
- fomine3 5y agoI wonder when Apple will leave from aluminum based design. It's used over 12 years.
- karmakaze 5y agoRiP Ferrari. Long live iFerrari, meh.
- sesuximo 5y agoiFerrar?
- vgeek 5y agoSo the tides have turned. In the late 1970's a high tech company by the name of Nikon hired Giorgetto Giugiaro, known for designing a number of Italian cars, including Ferrari, to design their flagship F3 SLR. Now Ferrari is hiring someone who helped essentially destroy/evolve the camera industry to design cars. They've already shown reluctance in switching to EV technology, despite having already seen other boutique manufacturers get exceptional performance-- at least when Richard Hammond isn't driving, that is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikon_F3 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikon_F3
- user_named 5y agoIt's about hiring for brand rather than design skills.
- GiorgioG 5y agoCan't wait to see a thinner new design every year.
- sanguy 5y agoIve is very over-rated. This is about hiring for the name, not the resulting outcome.
- ksec 5y ago>Ive is very over-rated. I like to think the loss of Steve Jobs had a huge impact on him. And it is apparent without the energy or RDF Steve has, Ive was burn out. I still think he is a great at industrial design.

- gwbennett 5y agoForm over function. So long to any USB ports, or SIM card ports.
- JohnClark1337 5y agoNo door handles. It can only be opened through an app on your phone that requires internet connectivity.
- ahefner 5y agoI'm curious what the last Apple products are that Ive still had a hand in. Aside from fixing some obvious missteps with keyboards, the touchbar, and whatnot, I feel like their design has been heading downhill. The iPhone 12 and 13, I realized when I got one, are garish and a far cry from the iPhone 4 it's supposedly intended to call back to, whereas just a few years ago they created the XS which was a stunningly beautiful object. The new iMacs are completely ridiculous looking.
