Raspberry Pi 4 model Bs arriving with newer 'C0' stepping
- destitude 5y agoWho even has Pi 4s in stock in USA? Last I checked everyone was out.
- ISO-morphism 5y agoI wasn't able to find anywhere to buy just the board, but starter kits with sd card/power adapter/hdmi/etc are available on Amazon for ~100 USD as of this past Thursday.
- pdx6 5y ago8GB kits run about $120 at Bestbuy for Canakit and Walmart resellers are about $115 for a no name kit. If you are lucky, you can buy 1 at a time from Chicagodist as a single board for $75.
- geerlingguy 5y agoLately only the 8 GB models have been in stock at Micro Center, as well as a smattering of older models and a few Compute Module 4s. Apparently this year's seen record demand, and even with a better supply chain, Raspberry Pi Trading's had a hard time keeping up [1]. - iudqnolq 5y agoJust bought this one for ~$60 (4gb with a power supply) on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Berryku-Raspberry-Pi-4-Model-B-DIY-4G-2G-1G-Kit-NOOBS-Ultra-Silent-Fan-/233649855013?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Berryku-Raspberry-Pi-4-Model-B-DIY-...
- regularfry 5y agoOoh, this is interesting. I've not bought any pi 4's yet because I don't want moving parts on them. If this means passive heatsinks are practical, I might retire some 3B's.
- mhandley 5y agoI've had a good experience with using a passive heatsink case on my Pi 4s. It's not lightweight, but there's a lot of thermal mass and plenty of surface area for cooling. https://thepihut.com/products/aluminium-armour-heatsink-case-for-raspberry-pi-4 https://thepihut.com/products/aluminium-armour-heatsink-case... I've got one sitting here driving some animations in chromium on a spare display, currently running with a load average of 1.1 (so not working flat out on all cores, but doing a moderate amount of work). CPU temp is 49C, and the case/heatsink is just pleasantly warm to the touch.
- InvaderFizz 5y agoPassive has been practical for a while with the Argon or Flirc cases.
- NortySpock 5y agoI've been getting ~50C temps at 10-20% load using a Flirc case for the RPi 4. (21.2 C ambient in my basement; technically the RPi is in a large cupboard but I don't recall that being noticeably warmer.) After compiling a rust program on 4 cores last week for nearly an hour, I think I hit ~72C on the CPU very briefly if memory serves, but temps dropped immediately any time rustc let off the gas.
- noveltyaccount 5y agoI have an 8GB model with the B0 stepping. Is there a downside to this? Can it not address all of the memory?
