- BigRedDog1669 5y agoDoes anyone have experience switching from QuickBooks to GnuCash? I would like to move from QuickBooks self employed to something that doesn't require a subscription. Would this work well?
- elevation 5y agoThe value add for Quickbooks is they calculate payroll withholding based on the latest tax law -- which is probably not cost effective to continually do yourself. However, where you aren't making payroll (household, a self employement, or a charitable foundation) then GNUCash shines.

- ktpsns 5y agoThere is a fantastic (German) banking application for Mac OS X called https://moneymoney-app.com/ https://moneymoney-app.com/. I'd love to have some platform-indepdent clone for this software. GNUCash comes closest, but is somewhat complicated with double-entry accounting. Any tips?
- Wildgoose 5y agoThe double-entry accounting is what makes GnuCash so wonderful to use. Everything has to balance. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. If you take money from your bank account and spend it on electricity then the amount you have spent on electricity goes up by the entered amount and your bank balance goes down by the same amount. By picking some sensible (broad) categories you can see at a glance how much you are spending in each category.
- Wildgoose 5y agoIncidentally, only the main document with the file suffix ".gnucash" is required. You can e-mail/backup that file and you can also use the Android App that is available to view it on your 'phone if you are an Android user. (Sadly the mobile app isn't available on iOS).

- larrybud 5y agoAgreed. I've been a happy Moneydance user for 10+ years. While I'm a proponent of Open Source software, sometimes it's useful to spend a little to get fit, finish, and support.

- koheripbal 5y agoIsnt it still single-user only? Are you a one-man accounting team?
- happyjack 5y agoI run a small consulting firm, and the only people who do the books are myself and another individual. We the file via WebDAV. I'm not sure how GnuCash would work in a large org.
