The logic that OP was arguing against is that stereotypes are edifying in terms of gender.
They are right that if you do not match either of the stereotyped genders then you can’t learn from gender stereotypes.
Sure, it’s better to learn from people in a holistic non stereotyped sense but that is not what was being suggested.
