I'm 90% sure I read this is an new API feature of Lion. I'm sure I read this when looking into how the sandboxing was designed to work. If I remembering correctly you can choose to make available an autokill flag for the system. From (my) memory you can control it programmatically... so if you say "no windows open and been alive for 10 minutes with no state change" then kill me.
