Cases are down 60% in Denmark since the government lifted all Covid restrictions
- nickthemagicman 5y agoIt's almost like wearing a dirty rag on your face until the waiter brings the breadsticks is not an ideal public health policy.
- addicted 5y agoOr that correlation is not causation. The government lifted restrictions because of conditions that made them not worry about COVID cases rising going forward, such as vaccinations.
- EliRivers 5y agoIf you've got something to say, be an adult and say it. Couching your meaning behind innuendo and "almost like" is lazy and childish.
- afarviral 5y agoAgreed! I cant tell if they mean people dont wear the right types of or fresh enough masks, if they're in denial that masks work, or what...? Just sounds kind of bitter and meaningless. But Im genuinely curious about their perspective.
- Arnt 5y agoInnuendo is good, though, because you you can employ it to hide things that you don't want the reader to notice. In this case, if GP were to use factual sentences, this might have been one way to phrase "the covid infection graph was flat in Denmark until government lifted the mask rules, then it dropped, and this shows that masks were harmful". The problem with such factual statements is that the error is plainly visible (the graph wasn't actually flat, the case count was dropping steeply). Phrasing using innuendo allows GP to hide the factual error. The intentionally imprecise language hides a lack of accuracy.

- nickthemagicman 5y agoThe statement that, in America, we wear a dirty rag on our faces until the waiter brings the breadsticks is pretty clear to me. Apologies if it wasn't clear to you.
- nickthemagicman 5y agoWhere's the innuendo in stating that, in America and many parts of the world, people wear dirty rags on their faces everyday, then take them off when they get to the table at the restaurant. Where's the innuendo in that? That's the mask policy on America. The American mask policy being this: Please wear a dirty rag on your face, then...when you get to your table at the restaurant...you can take the dirty rag off your face, while the waiter brings you food or drinks or breadsticks. And you can leave it off the entire time, but must put the rag back on to walk to the door, and then, once you're done walking from the table to the door, you can remove the rag again. I'm not sure where the innuendo is. Wearing a dirty rag on your face until the waiter brings the breadsticks is the health policy in America. And we have all agreed that wearing a dirty rag on our faces until the waiter brings the breadsticks is the best public health policy. And until the health policy changes and the people and government decide that wearing a dirty rag on our faces until the waiter brings the breadsticks is no longer needed....we will continue to wear a dirty rag on our faces until the waiter brings the breadsticks, for the foreseeable future. Please let me know where the innuendo is. It seems pretty clear to me.
- dang 5y agoYou've reverted to posting flamebait and unsubstantive comments a lot. That's seriously not cool, and the sort of thing which we'll end up having to ban you for if you keep doing it. If you'd please review the site guidelines and stop posting such things, I'd appreciate it. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- nickthemagicman 5y agoI'm sorry if the statement that we wear dirty cloths on our faces everyday, then when we get to the table at the restaurant we are allowed to take the rags off, then when we're done eating.at the restaraunt, we must put the mask back on to walk to the door, at which point we remove them again, sounded like flamebait.
- dang 5y agoResponding with more of what we're asking you not to do here isn't super helpful. It's nothing personal—we're asking the same thing of everyone. Matter of fact we've cut you a lot more slack than many others, but obviously we can't keep doing that if you don't even intend to correct the problem.
- easylayup 5y agoBut you will because he's a right wing anti-vaxxer! Why exactly have you cut this person more slack??? hmmmmm Oh and if anyone doubts where dang's alliances lie, just check out what he's let this guy get away with: https://news.ycombinator.com/threads?id=nickthemagicman https://news.ycombinator.com/threads?id=nickthemagicman
- dang 5y agoPicking one data point to generalize like that is beyond sample bias. Everyone with strong passions thinks the moderators are secretly on the side of their enemies. Sports fans think the same about the refs. Would you please stop creating accounts to break HN's rules with?
- finger 5y agoOne interesting thing happening right now is that there are an unusual amount of RSV cases at this time of the year. See the graf on this page: https://www.ssi.dk/aktuelt/nyheder/2021/helt-ekstraordinart-mange-far-rs-virus-lige-nu https://www.ssi.dk/aktuelt/nyheder/2021/helt-ekstraordinart-... The season for rs-virus has shifted by several months. I wonder if other diseases/illnesses will shift in the same way for a while until everything normalizes to regular seasonal patterns.
