- Maursault 5y agoHas Microsoft contributed much to cURL? or Sony? Apple gets a bad rap for not contributing to OSS, and it is not warranted. Darwin, CUPS, LLVM, WebKit, Bonjour, Swift, ResearchKit, and I am sure there are other OSS projects to which they've contributed. I like cURL, but the end of this article comes off as passive-aggressive self-centeredness. This is the worst fundraising strategy ever. Mister... you really need to work on your closing technique. May I recommend rather than publically shaming and scolding the provider of cURL's largest install base and the richest company that ever existed, instead you consider humbling yourself, behaving professionally, and respectfully request their donation? Apple gave away something like a half a billion dollars last year to nonprofits. I don't expect they gave it to haters.
- SuperNinKenDo 5y agoLike most people engaged in tone-policing, you have an awful tone. The author of the article owes nothing to "the provider of cURL's largest install base and the richest company that ever existed".
- Maursault 5y agoAd hominem and straw man aside, my point is that exhibiting entitlement while publicly giving the middle finger to deep pockets is a poor fundraising strategy, one that will likely chill donation interest from more than the intended target. Idiomatically, instead of biting a hand that may feed you, ask and you shall receive.
