Show HN: Hit.movie – Self publishing platform for movie producers
- samdung 5y agoHappy to launch Hit.Movie first here on Hacker News. Movie streaming is complicated because of the high quality encoding demands, need for content security (DRM, HDCP), geo restrictions, low latency streaming requirements, multi-platform support, etc. Hit.Movie handles all these so that movie producers can get their new movie streaming worldwide in as less as 7 days. We went a step further. We integrated payments that ensure movie producers get paid transparently and in near-realtime. To top it all, we handle taxation (on ticket sales) in most countries. We need your feedback. Please be gentle :) I'll be here for an hour or so. AMA.
- yodon 5y agoThe filmmaker-facing description you've written here is far more compelling than the consumer-facing experience I encounter when I hit the site.
- samdung 5y agoWhat you pointed out is correct. And, it is deliberately so. Look at it from the Movie Producers' perspective. They risk millions of dollars to bring us a great storytelling and they have to recoup that investment in just about 2 weeks time (before piracy takes its toll). For the consumer (movie watcher) it's an easy decision - download the app, pick a movie, sit back and relax. Our goal, as a platform, is to make things easy for the movie producer / production house.
- sd88 5y agoGreat app to help the indie makers and get high quality content out seamlessly!

- goldbattle 5y agoThe actual documentation website presents the problem far better then this homepage [1]. I recommend that you hire a web designer for the landing page as this website comes off as a scam at face value currently. The docs seem to have a lot of interesting details that I never knew about the space, thanks for sharing. [1] https://docs.hit.movie/ https://docs.hit.movie/
- samdung 5y agoThanks for going through the docs and linking them here. Our home page contains two slides (one for the Movie Consumer, one for the Movie Producer) and one footer slide. We wanted it to be brutally minimal and convey its message within 20-30 seconds to the reader. We know it doesn't fit in with the regular websites we are used to seeing, but it is the way we like it.
- catchmeifyoucan 5y agoI still don't exactly understand how this combats piracy? Isn't screen recording going to be the biggest concern here for content security. It can be done within 2 hours of a film releasing, causing a loss to movie-makers. Furthermore, one ticket can be bought, and streamed on a TV for multiple viewers at once.
- samdung 5y agoOne of key reasons why people watch a pirated movie is because of non availability of the genuine movie in their country/region. A significant subset of such people would be willing to pay a small fee to watch a high quality (FHD/UHD) version. A combination of DRM and HDCP controls software/hardware based screen recording to an extent. Yes, you can still point your camera at the screen and get a crappy copy. We are taking a very realistic world view here. We can get no where if we focus on the extremities. One ticket - one person is gone. One ticket - one family is the norm.
- runnr_az 5y agoAn example might be nice… like are you generating a website here? Why would I choose this over putting it on Amazon or a similar platform?
- samdung 5y agoHit.Movie coexists with other platforms. You can put your movie on Amazon AND on Hit.Movie. Those who do not want/have a Prime subscription can watch it on Hit.Movie. That's the idea.
