And the anti-cryptocurrency sentiment I've seen all over HN --- which appeared suddenly a few months ago --- is totally organic, right?
I'm sick and tired of everything being a narrative manipulation op.
- detaro 5y agoIf you think anti-cryptocurrency sentiment on HN "appeared suddenly a few months ago" you really haven't been paying attention. People have been whining that HN is so so negative about cryptocurrencies for years.
- almost_usual 5y agoHN has been mostly anti crypto as far as I can remember.
- gfodor 5y agoIt actually makes sense, the "YC generation" turnover is overdue. A few will pass through to the next dialectical synthesis successfully, but a lot are going to be left behind. Crypto is one of several things which are going to carry things through to the new order. (Avatar embodiment and pseudonymous identity is another, and DAOs taking the place of traditional startups is another.) A lot of people here are going to be left confused and angry, but that's the nature of change: the innovators of the past boil slowly into being stuck in their ways and unable to adapt.
- TigeriusKirk 5y agoHN's anti-crypto silliness goes back to the very early days of bitcoin.
- spywaregorilla 5y agoI'd love to hear what else you believe is a narrative manipulation op.
- nullc 5y agoOther than occasionally promoting ethereum and connected scams that have been heavily invested in by SV VC firms HN has been pretty reliably negative on cryptocurrency. Even pure tech work that just happens to have been done by Bitcoin related folks tends to get downvoted and flagged, e.g. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27573315 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27573315 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18645790 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18645790
- dang 5y agoOf course it's organic. The community is divided on the topic same way it is on every divisive topic. Both sides overgeneralize and think the community is against them—people on sides always do that.
