Nothing to see here ;) Just trying out a new account, as I think the old one might have been blacklisted. The fact that this managed to make the front page seems to confirm it.
- DanielRibeiro 15y agoIt seems to me that, since a few weeks ago, posting more than once a week makes your posts harder to reach the first page (they need more upvotes in less time). People that barely post seem to reach the first page with 3 votes in one hour.
- michaelchisari 15y agoWhile I have your attention, I've long wondered if it's possible to do for PHP what CoffeeScript did for JS. A more aesthetically concise and pleasing syntax that compiles directly to PHP. There's a few projects (PHP-Snow, CoffeeScript for PHP, etc), but they all seemed to have been abandoned.
- tlack 15y agoIn the past I've had a rough time parsing PHP (for an rdoc-style project), despite PHP having some built in support for parsing itself: http://php.net/manual/en/function.token-get-all.php http://php.net/manual/en/function.token-get-all.php Perhaps if one attempted to pull the parser out of Facebook's Hiphop and use that..
- fooyc 15y agoThere is many PHP parsers in a few languages: Some standalone: https://github.com/nikic/PHP-Parser https://github.com/nikic/PHP-Parser http://pear.php.net/package/PHP_Parser http://pear.php.net/package/PHP_Parser Some part of other projects: https://github.com/facebook/hiphop-php https://github.com/facebook/hiphop-php https://github.com/facebook/pfff/tree/master/lang_php/parsing https://github.com/facebook/pfff/tree/master/lang_php/parsin... https://github.com/manuelpichler/pdepend https://github.com/manuelpichler/pdepend http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpsecaudit/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpsecaudit/ http://lwn.net/Articles/239941/ http://lwn.net/Articles/239941/ http://www.score.is.tsukuba.ac.jp/~minamide/phpsa/ http://www.score.is.tsukuba.ac.jp/~minamide/phpsa/ http://www.program-transformation.org/PHP/PhpSat http://www.program-transformation.org/PHP/PhpSat https://www.fortify.com/ssa-elements/threat-intelligence/rats.html https://www.fortify.com/ssa-elements/threat-intelligence/rat... http://lara.epfl.ch/web2010/phantm http://lara.epfl.ch/web2010/phantm http://www.phpcompiler.org/ http://www.phpcompiler.org/ http://www.roadsend.com/home/index.php?pageID=compiler http://www.roadsend.com/home/index.php?pageID=compiler And probably many others. How do I force a line break ? Where is the syntax doc ?
- bwh2 15y agoIMO CoffeeScript exists because we can't really avoid JS for web apps. But avoiding PHP is pretty straightforward - you just use python, ruby, or whatever.
- michaelchisari 15y agoIn theory, yes. In practice, it's not so simple. Most developers using php do so not by choice, whether due to legacy code, or requiring php's ubiquity, or what have you. You can't use ruby or python to build wordpress plugins, for instance.
- bwh2 15y agoGood point. I can see where something like CoffeeScript for PHP would be useful.

- Scriptor 15y agoIt doesn't use CoffeeScript's syntax, but I work on Pharen, which takes a Lisp dialect and compiles it to PHP: http://scriptor.github.com/pharen/ http://scriptor.github.com/pharen/
