Ask HN: Are the Social Media buttons converting better now on TechCrunch?

I noticed that TechCrunch started loading in the social media buttons on hover of a story. I remember many of us complaining the site lag due to all these social widgets (aka like button, tweet button etc.). I wonder if as a side effect of loading the buttons of hover if more people click the buttons. Any insights on conversions like this from HN?
