Ancient City’s Destruction by Meteorite May Have Inspired the Biblical Sodom

  That layer of salt really makes it seem like these places are one in the same. As the story goes, when Lot's wife turned around (after being told not to), she was turned into a pillar of salt. Metaphorical or otherwise, it's interesting that the Biblical story specifically mentions salt in the aftermath. There is only a 50 year discrepancy in the closest estimated time frames for the stories of Sodom and Gomorrah and the event at Tall el-Hammam. I read once in a different article that the locations described in relation to the Dead Sea are contradictory, though. It is still all quite interesting.
