- JKCalhoun 5y agoMaybe not an engineering problem then. Have actual humans pre-screen all ads before allowing them?
- sgregnt 5y agoMy guess would be that this is not feasible. It's probably tens of thousands of ads changes every second. Googling it, there are 720,000 hours of video uploaded every day to YouTube.. this is youtube but my guess is that the scale is similar...
- jamincan 5y agoIt's not that it isn't feasible, it's that it's less profitable. It might even be unprofitable. If Facebook can't be profitable without facilitating slave trading, perhaps it should be allowed to go out of business. Any other business has liability for crime occurring on their premises, I don't see why tech giants should be exempt from that expectation.
- sgregnt 5y agoPerhaps if car accidents can't be stopped we should ban cars? It is my opinion that the up side contribution to society from facebook outweighs the inevitable downsides.
- JKCalhoun 5y agoI am having a hard time finding an upside contribution to society that Facebook is responsible for.
- sgregnt 5y agoThat's weird. Here are few examples: There are a lot of useful groups: group for weight loss, for various interest. Facebook helps me stay in touch with my relatives all over the world. On facebook I can find high quality (not as high as on HN though) discussions of recent news. Facebook market has some good things occasionally. I can use facebook to store my photos and more... all this is for free.
