Unlike Intel and AMD, Apple doesn’t need to focus on speed above all else
- PaulHoule 5y agoBogus article. Intel has been talking about "features" such as video codec acceleration, power savings, etc. for the longest time. Intel has a hard time delivering on these things because of the lack of vertical integration. For instance Intel has envy of ARM's Big/Little approach but it's the kind of thing that, by default, increases power consumption and lowers performance unless you finely optimize what tasks go to what CPU. Intel depends on Microsoft and also application developers to finely optimize power and performance. They just don't do it. Android has the same problem, but worse. I read the smartphone reviews on Anandtech and I am amazed the reviewers just don't kill themselves because all you see is that handset makers are cheating on benchmarks, they are nowhere near thinking about performance and power consumption in a way that would deliver results on either, never mind both.
