What an incoherent article.
Is it really outlinking if it's reddit's own image hosting service? Where is the data for the analysis discussed and why are all of the percentages expressed in ranges? Really shoddy stuff, even if I am sympathetic to the main point that hate speech is extremely hard to regulate.
- jaywalk 5y agoI think she's trying to say that Reddit should ban or seriously curtail outlinking (links to content that's not hosted by Reddit) and step up censorship of content that's uploaded to Reddit. But like you said, it's incredibly incoherent and hard to figure out exactly what the point is.
- kritiko 5y agoIf you're correct about her intention, that whole premise is technically unfounded too. I'm sure reddit analyzes outlinks to understand users, so adding an additional step of scraping the content and banning any obvious hate speech seems technically feasible. For memes hosted by reddit, OCR and moderate.
- sk2020 5y agoI assume it’s AI assisted content. Glib is an understatement. The two questions I came away with are 1- who is funding this useless NGO? 2- how on earth do you pronounce the author’s name. Is it B-AH-rbara? B-AY-rbara? That accent mark is killing me.
