Old working devices could last for decades with it's original function or some newer simpler function. For example, I use old phones as clocks. There are a couple of things I would like to see at device end of life: 1. A final update that disables all software related locks so I can load whatever software I want and change any files I want on the device to keep it going. 2. Access to the last version of the developer tools and documentation that can create software for the device, and for those tools to be available on the latest OS or even a frozen virtual machine containing an older OS and apps. 3. Ideally, access to source code or a new software licence that allows decompiling the software.
