Can anyone post a list of terminal commands to install Waydroid in Ubuntu 21? I'm a total Linux noob who just migrated from Windows.
I got as far as:
Sudo apt install python3 && curl && lxc
I don't know how to word the install for wayland session manager.
And copy pasting the....
"export DISTRO="bullseye" && \
curl https://repo.waydro.id/waydroid.gpg https://repo.waydro.id/waydroid.gpg > /usr/share/keyrings/waydroid.gpg && \
echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/waydroid.gpg] https://repo.waydro.id/ https://repo.waydro.id/ $DISTRO main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/waydroid.list && \
sudo apt update"
...told me permission denied to modify some files, even if I did it as "sudo".
I think once I get past that point I'll be able to type in the rest of the commands to start running it.
I think it would be lots of fun to run Android apps on a FOSS Android module. I was running LineageOS in VMWare within Windows, and it was ok.
Thanks!
- marcodiego 5y agoI tested it on bullseye, so I had to change nothing. I think, the thing you have to change is replacing export DISTRO="bullseye" with export DISTRO="focal"
- hereme888 5y agoUnfortunately I'm still getting: "bash: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/waydroid.list: Permission denied"
- marcodiego 5y agoTry "sudo" before the command that failed. I think it will become: "export DISTRO="bullseye" && sudo curl https://repo.waydro.id/waydroid.gpg https://repo.waydro.id/waydroid.gpg > /usr/share/keyrings/waydroid.gpg && sudo echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/waydroid.gpg] https://repo.waydro.id/ https://repo.waydro.id/ $DISTRO main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/waydroid.list && sudo apt update"
- hereme888 5y agoThis is what my terminal shows: sudo curl https://repo.waydro.id/waydroig.gpg https://repo.waydro.id/waydroig.gpg > /usr/share/keyrings/waydroid.gpg && echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/waydroid.gpg] https://repo.waydro.id/ https://repo.waydro.id/ $DISTRO main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/waydroid.list && \ > echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/waydroid.gpg] https://repo.waydro.id/ https://repo.waydro.id/ $DISTRO main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/waydroid.list && \ > sudo apt update bash: /usr/share/keyrings/waydroid.gpg: Permission denied
- marcodiego 5y agoYou are not pasting the command I typed. Look with attention.
- hereme888 5y agosorry, I'm just not getting it. After typing: export DISTRO="bullseye" I do the sudo curl....waydroing.gpg and it gives me the permission denied thing. I also tried with "focal" and yielded the same result. Maybe I'll leave the project for now until I get a better grasp of the terminal.
- marcodiego 5y agoTry one command at a time: export DISTRO="focal" sudo curl https://repo.waydro.id/waydroid.gpg https://repo.waydro.id/waydroid.gpg > /usr/share/keyrings/waydroid.gpg sudo echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/waydroid.gpg] https://repo.waydro.id/ https://repo.waydro.id/ $DISTRO main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/waydroid.list sudo apt update
- potyl 5y agoTry this command (sudo is needed only for writing files): DISTRO="focal" sudo curl https://repo.waydro.id/waydroid.gpg -o /usr/share/keyrings/waydroid.gpg echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/waydroid.gpg] https://repo.waydro.id/ $DISTRO main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/waydroid.list sudo apt update sudo apt install waydroid
- occoder 5y agoI tried it on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS which is also focal, but I'm getting this error on "apt update": Get:4 https://repo.waydro.id focal InRelease [1,343 B] Err:4 https://repo.waydro.id focal InRelease The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 959FE34E90E51522 Reading package lists... Done W: GPG error: https://repo.waydro.id focal InRelease: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 959FE34E90E51522 E: The repository 'https://repo.waydro.id focal InRelease' is not signed. Is that an issue with the waydroid repository, or with my setup?
- jijji 5y agoinstead of export DISTRO=.... use: export DISTRO=`grep DISTRIB_CODENAME /etc/lsb-release |awk -F= '{print $2}'`
