Why Hasn’t Elon Musk Been to Space Yet?
- jfengel 5y agoI assume it's because he's saving his trip to be the "first" something. Something bigger than "first billionaire in space". That might mean saving it all the way for the Mars trip. But he doesn't seem to feel the need to be spam-in-a-can for a joyride. He's got his sights set far, far higher. That doesn't explain why he's not also going on for a joyride. Maybe he doesn't want to look like Bezos and Branson, who are just doing it for their egos and with no actual exploration in mind. He wants to be an explorer and pioneer -- which, incidentally, totally surpasses their egos.
- GDC7 5y agoIt's poor risk/reward, I think. The trick that Musk mastered in order to acquire fame is continuous presence in the news cycle by saying outrageous things, picking up fights with people and by constantly manufacturing a Them for his "Us v. Them" narrative. First it was big oil , then shortsellers, then the SEC, now is the NTSB and the Biden administration. Let's also not forget the mini feuds along the way with the British cave diver in Thailand . Constantly going at it every day works better than a single individual effort
