Mandatory 10-Digit Dialing Becomes Effective on October 24, 2021 (Verizon)
- TheJoeMan 5y agoIt seems that in order to implement the FCC’s orders to turn 988 into a shortcode for the Suicide Hotline, millions of Americans/Verizon customers now have to type the area codes for local calls, as well as teach their small children.
- jsmith45 5y agoThere were plenty of areas that already required 10 digit dialing prior to this due to past area code overlay changes. This list adds a bunch more areas. I have to wonder how many places are left that still allow 7 digit dialing? On a cell phone, I've legitimately never even tried to use 7 digit dialing, as it has always seemed too risky, as it might do the wrong thing if connected to an unexpected cell tower near an area code boundary.
- kbelder 5y agoIt's been necessary where I live (Oregon) for more than a decade. I assumed it was that way everywhere already.
