when people say anti-vaxxer I get so confused. They call people who are against vaccines vaxers, which is kind of stupid because thats like calling people who wont play ball 'ballers'. They just did the 'er' thing to dehumanize the people, but its created a lot of confusion because now you hear 'anti vaxer'. are they against vaccines? or against people who are against vaccines? o_O
- bckr 5y ago> They call people who are against vaccines vaxers No, "anti-vaxxer" is the whole term. It means "person who is against vaccination". "-er" does not dehumanize, it characterizes. Your own example demonstrates this: "baller".
- autokad 5y agoits not always a term to dehumanize, but is often used as a way to do so. recognize nuance in the world. characterizing someone is also a way to dehumanize them, FYI. If you don't like a group of people and you want to get other people on board with hating them, just put some word_er and label them as such. it makes it much easier to garner hate for said group. This isnt a debate, this is a known known.
