What I find puzzling is that tech workers at Amazon apparently don't have any problem with being a cog in a wheel that is consistently making life more and more miserable for the working class.
- christophilus 5y agoIncentives. Amazon pays well. They give out stock options. Many people in the world will do terrible things for money. Being a tech worker doesn’t exempt you from the power of incentives.
- ggjgwesuo 5y agoWell this is standard HN, a thread about Amazon or any other such company and there has to be a thread about moral judgements on people who work there. Can anyone list all the companies one shouldn't work at? I guess big tech, big oil, big pharma perhaps are included. And also beyond what pay level do these moral codes apply, surely can't be everyone that works there, or is it just people working in tech? And even if one doesn't work in these companies, is it ok to have retirement savings invested in these stocks or index funds that invest in them? Of course, I assume using any products from these companies is off limits too?
