Do Developers Read Compiler Error Messages?
- daviddever23box 5y agoOne shouldn't need to with any frequency, given a statically-typed language with sufficiently modern tooling (linting, auto-formatting, package management).
- theamk 5y ago> study of 56 students writing Java with Eclipse I haven't read the paper, but I am going to guess that students learning the language and experienced developers want different things from error messages... and the current messages are tuned for latter, not for former. I am sure that we can make error messages easier to read for beginners, but do we want to do this if this makes it harder for experienced programmers?
