"Atlas Shrugged" is a polarizing book: people tend to either love it or hate it. And the people who love it love to tell other people how great it is, whereas many of the people who hate it just don't talk about it (because there's generally little need to talk about the badness of bad books). I think a book list is more useful if it has some books in it that some love and some hate, rather than only books that no one minds very much. Maybe some of them will turn out to be ones I love. (I happen not to be a Rand fan myself.)
