It has been my dream for decades to do exactly this on a sailboat at sea. With providers like Starlink it might be finally getting close to time to pull the trigger.
- megablast 5y agoAre you going to be working when at sea?? That’s not easy. I work when anchored. Just use my phone hotspot. And a couple of SIM cards.
- etherael 5y agoThat's the plan, but I'm not sure how realistic it is. In a traditional monohull with no special tricks, looks like it would be basically impossible. In a catamaran though, seems like it depends on sea conditions. And then there are a whole load of other ways that I've researched that seem promising (SWATH hulls, active gyro stabilizers like seakeeper, submarines even but then you have tethers and buoys for surface connectivity to get around the opacity of water when it comes to radio waves). Problem is one can theorycraft forever on this stuff and until you have a platform to actually test on, it's all mental masturbation and I'm aware of that.
