I have always insisted that a new system cannot be a 1-to-1 with the legacy system. If you want that, it is the legacy system.
They will have to come to terms with the fact that only some of it is going to be the same. The sooner they accept that, the sooner they can be in control of what and how - actually be in the loop for the prioritizations and trade offs being made.
