Jane Jacobs‘ book mentioned in the article is one that I highly recommend („The Death and Life of Great American Cities“; another one is „Cities and the Wealth of Nations“, here, if I remember correctly the theory is That cities are the drivers of economic growth, not countries. She even argues that cities have been the starting point of the agricultural revolution). There is so much thought-provoking material in those books. Blew my mind, when I read them five or so years ago.
