Q: As of 2021, is Debian stable's stability really worth it compared to Ubuntu LTS for server usage? Ubuntu has a larger community, hence a bit easier to find help.
A: "Secondly, you have to understand that all software is wrong, and the job of us people that create software is to try and reduce that wrongness. Now if by some miracle your software is perfectly right, it still depends on someone else’s library, or operating system, or processor, etc, that is wrong. One of the big ways to reduce wrongness is to actually use the software in as many ways as possible to detect what it does wrong and that takes time. The apparent lack of wrongness of Debian stable is a consequence of the fact that a lot of the packages contain fairly old versions of the artefact they install and, given their age, these packages have had enough use to detect and fix (or document) most of the more common bugs."
