We are about to leave for 6 weeks on La Palma to work for our telescopes (in the North, quite far away from the eruption).
Warnings were there for a couple of weeks, but it was much faster than many expected.
Most were not expecting anything within weeks until yesterday...
- phyalow 5y agoStill going? What kind of work are you performing on the telescopes? Sounds interesting. Thanks.
- pvaldes 5y agoI wonder how do you expect to deal with a sky partially filled with smoke day and night maybe for months. One eruption in Lanzarote lasted for five years. Sounds like an interesting problem. Is there something that could be turned into your advantage and measured more easily using the smoke?
- maxnoe 5y agoThe observatory is 50km away from the volcano and much higher. I don't know for certain but if it's not really bad, we shouldn't be affected too much by the smoke.
- maxnoe 5y agoYes, still going. We don't really expect a big impact, might change though. No official news yet. We do the regular observations operations. So mostly sitting at computers, setting up what should be observed and keeping an eye on the systems and environmental conditions.
