- MoreenDichele 5y agoIt wasn't a DDOS. It was delivering a persistent XSS payload to 8chan users. The javascript that was uploaded to imgur had a hidden embed of a flash file that had been uploaded to 8chan which itself executed scripts in the context of the 8chan domain to deliver the XSS payload. Reddit users who also use 8chan were then targeted by the imgur link being posted to 4chan/8chan related subreddits. There was a lot of speculation but no one ever figured out what the true goal was, so DDOS became a popular/easy theory to reach for. Source: It was me.
