Ask HN: What's your favourite way to relax?
- gogo61 5y ago1. 10 minutes session on any mediation application. I prefer headspace. 2. Walking 3. Playing with my Dog
- cpach 5y agoI recently signed up for Headspace, it’s quite good!
- robertohanas 5y agoMorning routine or when do you make time for it?
- cpach 5y agoI suck at routines – so it’s currently sporadic :) But I have considered to take a 10 min break around 2pm in order to meditate.
- robertohanas 5y agoYou seem very balanced :D
- epimetheus2 5y agoJudo or Brasilian Jiu Jitsu. Any grappling I guess where part of training is deliberate practice and part is kind of competition/sparring.
- robertohanas 5y agoAny reason why grappling trainings are relaxing?
- runjake 5y agoFlow. You can't overthink grappling, or you'll sabotage yourself. You have to let your mind flow like a river.
- robertohanas 5y agoNever tried it. Very interesting. Flow is quite addicting.
- epimetheus2 5y agoWhen you are thrown or being choked you are unable to focus on anything else than the moment itself. Its extremely liberating and picking both of those activities were detromental for my health
- judohacker 5y agoI agree with the others that Flow is part of why grappling is relaxing. But, the another reason is that it's an amazing stress reliever. After a good grappling session, you will feel incredibly relaxed and calm.
- cpach 5y agoRiding on the train, just watching out the window as the landscape pass me by.
- robertohanas 5y agoAs a student I used to dislike riding on the train every other weekend to go home. wished there would be a faster way to travel. I now miss watching out the window.
- yuuu 5y agoI take a walk and call my parents. I also occasionally take a bath while listening to a podcast.
- robertohanas 5y agoThat sounds lovely. I should call my parents.
- ah88 5y agoBeing a new parent, I realized this is one thing I have failed at in my 20s with my parents. Should have definitely called them more often, even if it's just for a few minutes here and there.
- robertohanas 5y agoI'm a new parent as well - it really made me understand and relate to my parents better. Calling them every week at least once to see the nephew (we live in a different country ) - but I'll try to do the 1 minute a day I commented earlier. It sounds like you don't have this chance anymore. . sorry for your loss.
- yuuu 5y agoDo it, and do it often. They are lonely.
- robertohanas 5y agoJust heard this and really liked: "1 minute a day is worth more than 1-2hours on a Saturday" Meaning giving 1 minute a day to your parents / love ones to let them know you are good - healthy - that you love and appreciate them..daily is worth more than trying to compensate on a Saturday.

- hahla 5y agoI’ve enjoyed wood turning/wood working in the past. Most people here build things on computers everyday, it’s fun to build something with your hands and touch and feel it. It’s quite meditative in a way. Cooking is a great way to relax as well. Take up a complicated recipe. It can take you hours to cook but I enjoy researching, shopping and trying to make the best version of something.
- robertohanas 5y agoMan it really is relaxing to do something with your hands instead of sitting at the computer. The reward you get from being able to touch what you are working on is really nice. Cooking can be relaxing as well - unless you have kids crying that they are hungry - then it becomes quite stressful. Do you have any specific wood working projects?
- codingdave 5y agoSit in a hammock in the woods, listening to the wind and the birds, watching the treetops swaying.
- robertohanas 5y agoTranquility.
- swah 5y agoThis will only work if I have phone removed for a few days...
