- smallpipe 5y agoIf you have a good router that does some queue management and doesn’t suffer from buffer bloat, it shouldn’t impact it too much.
- ggregoire 5y agoWhich routers including those features would you recommend? IQRouter? https://www.bufferbloat.net/projects/bloat/wiki/What_can_I_do_about_Bufferbloat https://www.bufferbloat.net/projects/bloat/wiki/What_can_I_d...
- dsissitka 5y agoIt depends on the speed of your connection. The IQrouter is nice but its SQM starts to fall over around 350 Mbps: > Due to traffic management demands, speeds are limited to around 350Mbps, so if on fiber or high-speed cable, that's the measurable limit. https://evenroute.com/iqrouter#:~:text=ensure%20low%20latencies.-,Due,-to%20traffic%20management https://evenroute.com/iqrouter#:~:text=ensure%20low%20latenc... If you don't mind doing a little work a Pi 4 will do cake at gig.
- smallpipe 5y agoSince I'm cheap (and I have a pretty terrible internet connection) I've just installed openwrt on a TP-link wifi router I had laying around.
- dec0dedab0de 5y agoYes, using your connection will always cause an impact. If it's noticeable or not depends on a bunch of factors that are hard to guess about. I wouldn't run it very often if I didn't have some kind of QoS in place.
