Everyone knows this is private information, the fact that you got your hands on it doesn't make it OK to share.
- browningstreet 5y agoMaybe, but I still want to know if they talk about the photos scanning situation. And maybe when a company is the largest on the planet and can make radical changes to our nature of privacy on an almost global scale, they get a little less deference to management’s privacy w/r/t broad speech. It’s going out to all employees.
- rndgermandude 5y agoJournalists reporting things that others would like to remain secret is kind of a huge part of the job description of journalists, especially investigative ones, considering moral and newsworthy aspects of course. A free press is a very integral part of a free society. If she wrote about what things Cook does in the privacy of his bedroom, then you'd have a point (unless he is doing something illegal and it becomes newsworthy again), as it's none of our business at all, immoral to report and just not newsworthy. But she is reporting on what the Apple leadership says about the company to thousands of employees, that may affect millions of lives one way or another. It's not private information by any means, it's not even trade secrets. It's company-internal information at best, maybe some things that Apple might not like to get out, but they didn't exactly like it either when journalists were running stories about the work conditions at Apple partners/suppliers/vendors like Foxconn either.
- spicybbq 5y agoApple is one of the most valuable companies in the world and statements by its CEO about the company's affairs are newsworthy. A message sent to >140,000 people is not private in any practical sense. Apple leadership knows this and undoubtedly treats it as a public forum, despite it being ostensibly targeted at Apple employees.
