New Zealand cricket team abandon Pakistan tour after 'government security alert'
- jussij 5y agoBack in 2009 while on tour in Pakistan, the bus holding the touring Sri Lankan cricket team was ambushed by a gunman and sprayed with bullets in a targeted attack. Fortunately, while some of the players where injured in the attack, no one was killed. Given the instability in the region at this time, I'd say it would take a brave cricketing team to tour Pakistan at this moment in time.
- baybal2 5y agoToday, you have much higher chance to be hit with a blunt object to the back of your head in LA back alleys, than be killed in Islamabad.
- sinyug 5y agoI remember Australia and West Indies forfeiting their games during the 1996 Cricket World Cup when they refused to play in Sri Lanka during the civil war even though there was no real threat to the cricketers. But Sri Lanka, even at its worst, was not a basket case like Pakistan. With the collapse of the Afghan government and the porous border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, you can't predict who the TTP and other militant organizations within Pakistan will target next.
