Ask HN: What services do you pay for every month?
I'm always interested in seeing what others think is worth throwing money at.
- JadoJodo 5y ago- Apple One - Netflix - FastMail - Libro.fm - Element.io - JetBrains Ultimate - SetApp - YouTube Premium (Begrudgingly)

- soheilpro 5y agoApple Music and Spotify at the same time?
- epc 5y agoYeah. Apple Music let me consolidate my personal library and make it available everywhere (albeit in a crappy fashion, it keeps downloading MP3s as AACs then cannot play them). Leading towards canceling Apple Music as Spotify seems to have better mixes (and doesn't blow out my mobile data every month unlike Apple Music before I cut it off LTE).
- f0e4c2f7 5y agoPlayphrase.me: Cracks me up and can get a point across even better than a gif. Youtube Music: One of the worst products I use but better than the alternatives. I used to use Google Play Music but it got shutdown in favor of Youtube Music which still has not yet reached feature parity with the product that was destroyed (neither has Spotify in my opinion). One nice thing about Youtube music is that it also gets rid of ads on Youtube.
- skydhash 5y agoUltraSeedBox (Crappy Internet where I live) - Spotify - Infuse Pro - iCloud I paid yearly for the following: Bear - Drafts - PDF Viewer - 1Password - Playstation Plus - Banktivity - Email and Domains
- swah 5y agoIIRC Google storage, Youtube premium, TickTick premium, Netflix (more for the family), Prime (for the free delivery, not the video) I prefer one-time payment when possible (as a client, of course..)
- qsort 5y agoNot related to any of this stuff. Generic stuff: - Apple One - Amazon Prime - Now TV (sports broadcast) Weirdly specific nonsense: - manatraders.com - I hate smartphones because I'm a lowlife with zero force of will, so I keep a spare phone connected to a web server to send myself notifications via SMS to my dumbphone. There are cheap unlimited SMS plans at 4 euros/month that are more than enough for my use case.
- sandwichbop 5y agoJetBrain Utlimate, Autodesk Maya, Adobe Substance 3D, Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps, Pixologic ZBrush, CLO Marvelous Designer, Microsoft 365, 1Password. I try to get annual plans if I can.
- cpach 5y agoEvernote, Headspace (mindfulness app), Irccloud, YNAB, Voi (electric scooter subscription), Spotify, Netflix. And two newspapers.
- ozzythecat 5y agoAmazon Prime (annual), Disney Plus, Spotify, Netflix (4K). Amazon Prime for the fast-delivery and other shopping perks (Prime discount on books). Disney Plus for the Marvel content. Spotify: This is probably the best bang for the buck. We use this every single day. Netflix: The only streaming service that actually has quality shows and decent recommendations. Rant: Prime Video UI is embarrassingly bad compared to Netflix, and it feels like they stopped all production of any interesting show because of COVID. I'm still looking forward to the Expanse (December?) and Mrs. Maisal (in 50 years?). We had HBO Max at one point. I can't get into any of the shows at the moment. We really liked Barry, which it seems they've put the next season on hold indefinitely. Raised by Wolves was good... but again, who knows when the next season will come. For me, 3-4 services is the most I'll consider anyway.
- mijndert 5y agoiCloud storage, Spotify, Netflix, 1Password, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Nintendo Online. I like to keep this list as short as possible.
