- eli 5y agoOh neat, I built a little script that pulls front pages from https://www.freedomforum.org/todaysfrontpages/ https://www.freedomforum.org/todaysfrontpages/ and displays them on an eInk screen. https://github.com/elidickinson/newsvision https://github.com/elidickinson/newsvision
- drewg123 5y agoWow, this is interesting. It seems to be scan of the front page of a variety of physical newspapers. I've bookemarked it.
- eatonphil 5y agoThis is really cool. I've been brainstorming how to build an app that allows you to browse major newspapers by country/region so you can easily get exposed to news in other places. I think it would look something like this site. If someone does this first or this site becomes like that (it needs an index and grouping system) I'd love to hear about it.
- ketchup_57 5y agoI love this!
- jonwinstanley 5y agoThis is very interesting. Is it updated daily? How does the site get the images? They are extremely high quality.
- tyingq 5y ago>How does the site get the images? Guessing via things like: https://static01.nyt.com/images/2021/09/17/nytfrontpage/scan.pdf https://static01.nyt.com/images/2021/09/17/nytfrontpage/scan... https://enewspaper.latimes.com/desktop/latimes/default.aspx?pubid=50435180-e58e-48b5-8e0c-236bf740270e https://enewspaper.latimes.com/desktop/latimes/default.aspx?... https://digitaledition.chicagotribune.com/html5/desktop/production/default.aspx?edid=520883c0-998a-431a-b86d-874c9d322ded https://digitaledition.chicagotribune.com/html5/desktop/prod...
- subpixel 5y agoI didn't built it, but the data is from newseum.org / api.freedomforum.org
- tyingq 5y agoAh, yeah. This page is fairly similar to the linked site: https://www.freedomforum.org/todaysfrontpages/ https://www.freedomforum.org/todaysfrontpages/
- subpixel 5y agoFreedom Forum has an app: https://www.freedomforum.org/todaysfrontpages/app-for-phone-or-tablet/ https://www.freedomforum.org/todaysfrontpages/app-for-phone-... On the app, you can't really read the front pages, as they are downsampled images.
- gavinbt 5y agoI use an Apple Shortcut to view the day’s NYTimes page 1: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/b1f3a2bf3cd4462c952c167e16537b61 https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/b1f3a2bf3cd4462c952c167e165...
- imranhou 5y agoThis is great! How are you dealing with copyright issues here?
- smhenderson 5y agoI would assume it falls under fair use. I had the same reaction until I realized, as cool as it is, you only get the cover. Every article on a page ends with a "turn to page A9" type of prompt and since those pages are not part of this they're not distributing the whole article. My $.02, IANAL, etc., etc.
- foolinaround 5y agothis is a really cool idea. Can I make a feature request? I should be able to search on some tag like 'Afghanistan' and get the pages from the papers around the world with articles on it. Likewise for yesterday's pact US/UK did with Australia : Would love to quickly scan what the editorials in US, Europe, China, India etc have to say on it.

- artembugara 5y agoReally nice! If anyone wants something similar but in a structured JSON REST API: https://newscatcherapi.com/news-api https://newscatcherapi.com/news-api Disclaimer: I am a co-founder of NewsCatcher
- xabi 5y agoFront pages all around the world categorized: https://en.kiosko.net/ https://en.kiosko.net/
- stronglikedan 5y agoSeems to be a delay there, where OPs site focuses on the current day's papers. Still cool nonetheless.
- beardyw 5y agoFor the UK I use this, but you need to beware of your sanity when looking at most of them. https://www.tomorrowspapers.co.uk/ https://www.tomorrowspapers.co.uk/
- IcyHordr 5y agoNoice
- _RPL5_ 5y agoThis is a nice tool. I wonder, if with some additional bells and whistles, like machine translation, bookmarking, and tag search, this could be a product people would be willing to pay for.
- eli 5y agoYou'd probably then need to actually get permission from the news publishers
