Yea, I think it's probably an exaggeration for dramatic purposes. I've been around the block for a while, too, and I don't think I've ever learned a language of which I thought it might be useful career-wise which then later fell of the surface of the Earth completely. I mean, how long does it take to learn a new language, once you're experienced with some others? Hardly as long as new trends arise and die again.
