- twofornone 5y agoPolicymakers seems to be afraid to say many things that need to be said. And scientists too. How did we arrive at this moralistic dystopia? What happened to the free speech supporting left of yesteryear? Is it their kids who are now rebelling by reverting back to puritanical style censorship? Whatever the case, simply forbidding (with implicit taboos) one side of a discussion inevitably leads to bad policy (and research). I think this sort of toxic optimism (no pessimism allowed) is closely related to the decline of the American Empire.
