I worked for a company for 2+ years where I was good enough to get two pay raises above the norm and one promotion. Until one day, I was given a stack of resumes and told to review them and reject all of them for some reason (so a couple of H1B engineers could get a Green Card). I refused and found myself being let go about six weeks after. They offered me severance and I consulted a employment lawyer who just shook his head and said my best bet was to just take the severance as no lawyer could take this case on a contingency basis and even hiring him would possibly make me unemployable in my field. When windmills can shred you no point in tilting at them. You can't pay your hospital bills and mortgage with principles.
