It will be ready by 2040 with unknown cost. What a fantastic plan.
Leaving that aside why are stealth submarines still important? I mean autonomous barges seem to be already a thing at spacex. The ocean is so vast, isnt it possible (and cheaper) to just send out 100 carrying 2 missles randomly moving around. If China does anything dumb launch a few.
- dane-pgp 5y agoIf my nuclear deterrent relied on having 100 autonomous barges spread around the open ocean, I'd be wondering how much it would cost my adversary to make 100 autonomous self-destructing underwater drones.
- HomeDeLaPot 5y agoChina (and everyone else) would know where each barge is all the time. They'd be ready to sink them—possibly with their own stealthy subs—within seconds of the order being given. Someone might even do "something dumb" and try to sneakily disable or steal one—you need a better way to respond to that than just "launch a few nukes at China and start World War Three".
