These aren't random people. These are prominent people in the Tesla community. Don't be so condescending and arrogant. More specifically Rob Maurer and Omar Qazi were looking into it.
Here is Omar Qazi's speculation based on the numbers of 140kWh.

Here is Rob Maurer's speculation that it is actually about 129kWh instead.

- clouddrover 5y agoYou mean people in the Tesla community who are trying to rationalize to themselves why Teslas don't drive as far? It isn't condescension or arrogance. It's simply practicality.
- babesh 5y agoReally? Here is what Lucid Motors tweeted today. https://twitter.com/lucidmotors/status/1438615868183744519?s=21 https://twitter.com/lucidmotors/status/1438615868183744519?s... All they say is > 110kWh
- clouddrover 5y agoSo you mean just like how 113 kWh is greater than 110 kWh? No way, man.
- babesh 5y agoJust like 114 is greater than 110. Just like 200 is greater than 110. Just like 110.1 is greater than 110. Basic logic and basic math. 13. Guess a number greater than than 10. Must be 13. See I told you so. Hahahahaha. If you so believe it is 113, what happens if I share the link of a Lucid battery that says 110? Which do you believe then? https://twitter.com/kristennetten/status/1438586256363966466?s=21 https://twitter.com/kristennetten/status/1438586256363966466...
- clouddrover 5y agoIt doesn't say 110 kWh. It says greater than 110 kWh. You're just irrationally repeating yourself at this point. It says greater than 900 volts. Do you believe that means it's an 1800 volt pack? It says greater than 750 kW output. Do you believe that means it has a 1500 kW output? Do you understand the difference between net and gross battery capacity? Here's an explainer: https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a36051980/evs-explained-battery-capacity-gross-versus-net/ https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a36051980/evs-explaine... I think you need to spend less time on Twitter. You'll be better for it.
- babesh 5y agoForbes says 118kWh. https://youtu.be/X9VZGkyL6KY https://youtu.be/X9VZGkyL6KY 11:32 Also, people are only considering net for range.
- clouddrover 5y agoNo, the full Forbes quote from the "Tesla Daily" video is "118 kilowatt-hours total capacity". That's gross capacity. Did you read the Car and Driver battery explainer? If not, have a read. Here's the whole Forbes article: https://www.forbes.com/wheels/news/lucid-air-500-mile-range/ https://www.forbes.com/wheels/news/lucid-air-500-mile-range/ I think you've done a good job proving the Lucid Air's battery pack is 113 kWh net. And today's lesson is that Twitter is not your best source of information.

That is rated capacity. The same website says that Tesla Model S has close to 100kWh usable/net capacity and close to 110kWh rated. The 520mi range Lucid Air has that 138kWh gross. "This website is administered by Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the U.S. DOE and the U.S. EPA." It pays to keep an open mind. Sometimes >110 != 113. So we have >110, 113, 118 total, and 138 rated as possibilities. The 138 rated looks the most legit.

- Andys 5y agoWhy would they need to do that, when a model S costs $60k less? you could get a free Model 3 thrown in for that
- clouddrover 5y agoThey need to do it because a sense of belonging trumps rationality. They derive identity from an emotional attachment to a lifestyle brand premised on being on the leading edge of car and EV technology. EVs from other brands that charge faster or have greater range threaten that identity so they cast about for explanations and rationalizations in order to preserve their sense of self. It's a similar phenomenon to what you see with QAnon or Trump or anti-vax "truthers". Feeling like you're part of the group is more important than accepting simple, practical realities. It's easier to concoct some kind of conspiracy theory than it is to admit that your beliefs are wrong. And, when in comes to Lucid in particular, Elon Musk has been publicly feuding with Peter Rawlinson for pointless, petty, and untrue reasons: https://insideevs.com/news/505126/elon-musk-tweet-rawlinson-not-chief-engineer/ https://insideevs.com/news/505126/elon-musk-tweet-rawlinson-... Musk's followers like to follow him.
- Andys 5y agoI don't own a Tesla but I'm a fan of them for one huge reason: they're shipping a product, and they've been shipping for years already. Nothing can replace that real-world experience and these upstarts will have a lot to prove in my book.
- clouddrover 5y agoSo you must be a fan of Volkswagen, Ford, Stellantis, GM, Geely, Tata, Renault, Nissan, and Hyundai for the same huge reason.
