I have expressed a good few heterodox opinions on HN that are accepted without vitriol. So, I am not sure I agree. HN expects you to be civil, and abide by the "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence " paradigm. I find them to be reasonable requirements. If you'd like to express more heterodox views then there are a few rationalist-adjacent splinter groups around the internet with excellent discourse over a wide range of opinions. Each splinter group has different overton windows, but they're all of a really high quality.
