Lucid actually has some interesting tech/approaches to get this range.
1. Slightly more aerodynamic than the Model S
2. Smaller than the Model S. Remember the coefficient is calculated based on the cross sectional area so the smaller size has a multiplier effect. Supposedly the Lucid has more interior space than the Model S but maybe not storage capacity.
3. A transmission. This seems to make it more efficient at highway speeds.
4. Very light and compact motor/integrated transmission/inverter
5. Very big battery (can't get a firm figure but have heard numbers from 110kWh to 150kWh). The Tesla Model S is 100kWh.
Of these, the drivetrain seems the most interesting. It will be interesting to break down the effects of each of the above.

Also, this range is only for their highest end model which costs a very, very pretty penny of $161K.
- clouddrover 5y ago> Very big battery (can't get a firm figure but have heard numbers from 110kWh to 150kWh). It's 113 kWh. They don't specify if that's net or gross capacity. It's probably net: https://www.lucidmotors.com/stories/introducing-2021-lucid-air https://www.lucidmotors.com/stories/introducing-2021-lucid-a...
- babesh 5y agoThere are people on Twitter looking at the underlying efficiency numbers for highway and city who think it needs higher kWh than that. That link is from 2020 btw. We will probably soon find out.
- clouddrover 5y agoIf people on Twitter say so then it must be true.
- babesh 5y agoThese aren't random people. These are prominent people in the Tesla community. Don't be so condescending and arrogant. More specifically Rob Maurer and Omar Qazi were looking into it. Here is Omar Qazi's speculation based on the numbers of 140kWh. https://twitter.com/WholeMarsBlog/status/1438585974015987724 https://twitter.com/WholeMarsBlog/status/1438585974015987724 Here is Rob Maurer's speculation that it is actually about 129kWh instead. https://twitter.com/TeslaPodcast/status/1438596012281630720 https://twitter.com/TeslaPodcast/status/1438596012281630720
- clouddrover 5y agoYou mean people in the Tesla community who are trying to rationalize to themselves why Teslas don't drive as far? It isn't condescension or arrogance. It's simply practicality.
- babesh 5y agoReally? Here is what Lucid Motors tweeted today. https://twitter.com/lucidmotors/status/1438615868183744519?s=21 https://twitter.com/lucidmotors/status/1438615868183744519?s... All they say is > 110kWh
- clouddrover 5y agoSo you mean just like how 113 kWh is greater than 110 kWh? No way, man.
- babesh 5y agoJust like 114 is greater than 110. Just like 200 is greater than 110. Just like 110.1 is greater than 110. Basic logic and basic math. 13. Guess a number greater than than 10. Must be 13. See I told you so. Hahahahaha. If you so believe it is 113, what happens if I share the link of a Lucid battery that says 110? Which do you believe then? https://twitter.com/kristennetten/status/1438586256363966466?s=21 https://twitter.com/kristennetten/status/1438586256363966466...
