- Animats 5y agoIt's scary. Imagine the US five years from now, with Team Trump in charge of the censoring.
- reginold 5y agoBanning Trump from Twitter...the pendulum will indeed swing the other way. How long do we have. The clock is ticking on open source, decentralized solutions. Nothing else is relevant.
- hnisfullofshit 5y agoHackerNews is notorious for censoring anything that falls outside its groupthink or threatens a portfolio company. It's actually one of the more aggressive censors on the internet. Case in point from this very thread: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28558254 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28558254 There is no free speech here.
- reginold 5y agoCurious to hear more about this. Is censorship "removal" or simply not getting votes? I've seen this concept generally addressed here before as "we don't censor, people just vote this way"
- hnisfullofshit 5y agoIt was flagged by a mod.
- detaro 5y agoflagging is something normal users can do.

- hncircus 5y agoBecause the bare-face hypocrisy of censoring a comment like that on a thread about commenting pulled back a bit too much of the curtain. They'll be back to silently killing accounts and comments in no time.
- Sebb767 5y agoHN is not overly censoring, but it [0] is very disapproving of overly divisive and flaming content. Also, HN is not one person. And the comment you linked is not even negative at the moment. [0] In this case, both community and moderators.
- hncircus 5y agoHN leaves up all kinds of divisive content, as long as it's in their financial interest or aligned with the ideologies of the site owners and moderators. "Very disapproving", you mean they censor. They censor content they don't approve of. It's wild that so many people will defend that position here.
- dang 5y agoThe comment was obviously trollish. Please stop creating accounts to break HN's rules with. "Portfolio company" has nothing to do with how we moderate HN, except that we moderate less in such cases. Explained many times over the years: https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&query=by%3Adang%20moderate%20less%20%22not%20more%22%20yc&sort=byDate&type=comment https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=false&qu....
