Agreed with all of the above, but it addition, isn’t it obvious gun owners in the United States are much more likely to support any likely authoritarian government? They are mostly right wing, and the right wing in the US increasingly leans authoritarian.
- philwelch 5y agoThis is an oversimplification to some degree, but even if we take this for the sake of argument, isn’t the obvious solution to stop treating gun ownership as a right wing issue?
- xadhominemx 5y agoWho should stop treating gun ownership as a right wing issue? Left wing people? Most left wing people think there should be fewer guns.
- philwelch 5y agoRight; I don’t think the center-left should voluntarily disarm itself. (Socialists are surprisingly pro-gun; they have a saying that if you go far enough to the left, you get your guns back.)
- rpmisms 5y ago> isn’t it obvious gun owners in the United States are much more likely to support any likely authoritarian government? That's hilarious. Sure, there's the Republican party, but also a massive Libertarian sentiment here, and Libertarians love guns.
- xadhominemx 5y agoLibertarians are not by any measure a massive segment of the population.
- rpmisms 5y agoLibertarians aren't, but libertarians are.
- newfriend 5y agoWhich authoritarian policies are the right wing in the US increasingly leaning towards again? As far as I can tell, most "right wing" individuals mostly want liberty from government interfering in their lives.
- xadhominemx 5y agoMeaning they want single party rule and don’t care for democracy

- hasdf 5y agoI've always thought of the Left as authoritarian. It goes with the whole big government thing. Especially lately the left wing governors have really been handing out a lot of mandates.
