Is there any practical benefit to this research? It is interesting, and I'm sure there exists a small intersection of women who:
Want a baby with another woman
Are adamant that the baby be genetically from them
Have the funds to make this happen
But this seems like a very small market. If it is privately funded research by an eccentric billionaire that is one thing, but if a publicly traded company is contributing, it is short changing shareholders. If the government is contributing via tax dollars, it is a gross misappropriation of the publics funds, when more pressing issues which have impact to a broad base exist.
On the same spectrum fertility treatment while children are left unadopted or in foster care should be privately funded as it is not in the common good.
